Where is the South Hams?

Picture of The South Hams

The South Hams covers some 340 square miles/ 880 square kilometres of England's most beautiful coast and countryside scenery. Lying between the Rivers Dart and Tamar, the South Hams stretches in undulating splendour from the haunting wilderness of high Dartmoor to the wave tossed headlands of the South Devon coast.

The South Hams Council for Voluntary Service gives support, advice, training and other services across the whole district. The area has four main towns - Totnes, Kinsgbridge, Dartmouth and Ivybridge and a wealth of small rural villages and hamlets.

The main HQ for the CVS is an office in Totnes.   There are good links by road, rail and bus into the town.  We are located at the top end of town in Leechwell Street, in between the Kingsbridge Inn and a pay and display car park!

The office opening hours are from 9.00am - 3.00pm and other times by arrangement.  When the office is closed an answerphone service is available.

Facilities available for use by visitors to the office -

  • Low-cost photocopying for voluntary/community groups
  • Use of OHP and flip-chart and hire of display panel boards
  • a resource library of over 100 books relevant to the voluntary sector including up-to-date information on charity laws and new legislation, funding, public affairs, management of groups and more.
  • Advice and support by an experienced team of staff who can help you if you are looking for funding, seeking information on a particular charity, volunteering opportunities and other queries.
  • A meeting room which is available to use by all voluntary and community groups.
